May 24, 2012 Historical Society minutes- public library

Jim welcomed everyone to the program- mentioned briefly upcoming events of interested to the society including the June 22, 2012 charity softball game presented by the Heritage Commission to raise funds for the veteran’s memorial. The Society received a letter of thanks for our donation to the fund raiser. He indicated that the society through EBay purchases. He mentioned a few including postcards from Bayside flying service and Merrimack boating, photos of inside the Stevens home, Jimmy Carter visit to Robies, residents of Joyland Mobile Park, dog days at Stobies farm. EBay will be continued to be monitored for additional items.

After a brief update on society activities the speaker was introduced. Robert Perrault, a speaker from the NH Humanities Council presented “Having a Fine Time in Manchester: Postcards and Local history “

The postcards included the hermit of mosquito pond, now and then views of downtown Manchester’s and he highlighted some wonderful written notes that appeared on these vintage cards. The meeting concluded at about 8:00 pm
